No, we do not cut at the CRS bbox, there is no such option, they are often related to political/administrative reasons instead of math related reasons, so they are undesirable to use because of their narrowness, and for a large (infinite?) number of CRSs they are not available to start with (custom CRSs, or AUTO ones) The current code works by cutting in a safe area where the math is still known to work instead (which is normally way larger than the official bbox).
