I forgot to add the deprecation checks to the java 11 build, and there is a ton of them. One that really caught me off guard is that finalize() has been deprecated, but the replacements are not easy/obvious. I checked out articles, some suggest to use custom phantom references subclasses along with a reference queue... ugh. For the moment I'm suppressing the warnings (they are easy to locate later), but this is tech debt that we'll have to address at some point, since Oracle is aggressively pushing for removal of deprecated methods.
