Hi Jody,
just a quick reminder, now the release build job includes building GeoTools
off an empty repository,
using I believe JDK 8 on a Linux machine. From the job configuration:
...
echo "building GeoTools on a clean Maven Repo"
cd ./"geotools-${VERSION}"
m2tmp="`pwd`/m2_repo"
mkdir "${m2tmp}" || true
mvn -B clean install -pl '!org.geotools:gt-ogr-bridj'
-Dmaven.repo.local="${m2tmp}" -nsu -Dall -T1
echo "removing temporary maven repo"
rm -rf "${m2tmp}"
...
So it would be interesting to see if things build fine in other environments
