[Geotools-gt2-users] New geotools user

I just downloaded the files and I would like to know if somebody con point me to the wright direction for new users.  I am java developer and esri products user.  First I would like to know if I can use the same shape files used by esri products and if it is possible to connect to their geodatabases.  I hope to be a good contributor as soon as I catch up with you all.
