Ok clear !
That way I'll only have as many WebMapServer Objects in my JVM as there are WMS Services available/published on the (in this case ArcIMS) server.

Thanks again and the way you and Jody are responding, really do help me in building up the confidence to use this software.

I am just a J2EE/Portal developer/designer that needs to integrate a compleet new kind of content (new to me of course !)
It is fun, really !
A nice change from accessing SAP/PeopleSoft/BusinessObjects, Reuters StockExchange or Web Content Management systems :-)

Just for my own interest are Google Maps and Windows Life Local using the same standards as the GIS opensource community ?

Regards

Michel

Re: [Geotools-gt2-users] Question about multithreading, serverside use of WMS client code

I think it would probably be better to cache it on a higher level. Every
time you create a new WebMapServer, it contacts the server. If you are
creating lots of WebMapServer objects that all represent the same
server, then you are generating redundant calls to that server.

Re-using the same object will prevent this. And as far as I know, there
are no downsides to doing it that way. (IE: The WebMapServer object does
not retain much state - just the information about how it communicates
with the server)

Cheers,

Richard
