Well, I can try, but there's a catch. We don't have the manpower to 
stretch over 3 branches, and we are working on 1.6.x alpha and 1.5.0rcX
so it's unlikely there will be be a Geoserver 1.4.2. At most, if the
patch is applied, you'll be able to build your own unofficial 1.4.x build.

As far the MIF stuff is concerned, I really believe to have seen
that failure occur randomly... I'll have a look, nevertheless.
