Perhaps someone can help you with the information you have given us, but
I would need to know more. For example, what version of Geotools are you
using, how are you "adding" the renderer, and such subtleties. 

Ideally, you could give us some details on your situation (Operating
Systems, Geotools version...) and then show us the code you are using to
add the renderer into your Frame. It sounds like you are using a full
widget rather than adding the renderer to your own widget.
