I allready had a look at JAI (ROIShape etc.). I got stucked, thus I  
ended up trying something else.
Well I think I have to review the ROIShape-stuff and  dig a little  
bit deeper.

By the way

This one seems to be trivial. RectIter/RandomIter allows for  
definition of a bounding rectangle within the grid.
