Well, it is worth to point out that actually your question was not
stupid. The 2.5m2 release contains also some pluygins which try to
look for gdal dependencies, that's why the error messages. The point
is that those messages should have not popped that up, which was a bug
on our end. We should have fixed that as of now.

You know what? I would be extremely grateful if you could spend 30 min
to 1 hour of your time in order to write down what you have done in
the geotools wiki so that other people can use that document as a
reference.
