I am a geotools amateur, but Open Street Maps is an open source map
competitor to Google maps which can be used with geotools, only thing is you
will need to convert the OSM format to GML using a converter. I am not very
sure about google map because i always thought google map exposed a
javascript API which essentially restraints it to the web, but again I am
not very sure about this
