Hello, I'm sorry you're having so many problems but, if it's any comfort, you can at least be sure that it will work eventually since we build GeoTools from source with maven on a variety of platforms.
Since you are getting some funny errors, and you've tried different maven versions, I would highly recommend that you now do a fresh start by first deleting your existing local maven repository. I know this means a lot of downloads again but it is sometimes the best way. Next, choose either maven 2.0.9 (I am using this successfully every day) or 2.0.10. Delete any other versions that you have on your system. Let us know how you go.
