I'm not sure. That is odd.
All I know is if I comment out the below hint my app bombs.
hints.put("optimizedDataLoadingEnabled",new Boolean(true) );
Is this something that was always default with the StreamingRenderer?
Do you have a list of hints associated with the renderer?
It may be nice to know what other ones are available.

That hint is set to true by default in the renderer so I'm not sure
why your code makes any difference to the behaviour of your app (?)
