Tim,

as far as I know, feature type traversal depends entirely on the support 
of the DataAccess to which the Query is submitted. The application 
schema (app-schema) DataAccess supports this type of traversal. For 
example, if you have a nested (chained) feature type that is a property 
of a top-level feature type, you can filter the top-level feature type 
based on the properties of the nested type.
