Yeah it is.

Reading the FEATURE_2D javadocs does not provide much hope - the hints seems to 
be to downgrade 3D data to 2D for display.

        Request that the features returned by the feature collections should be 
2D only. Can be used to prevent the request of the third ordinate when only two 
are going to be used.

It sounds like you are at the bleeding edge; it is probably time to step into 
the code and see what is being done. You could at leas confirm if the EWKB 
reader supports the creation of these geometries.
