I am trying to place a Servlet that creates shapefiles on Google App Engine. The problem that the filesystem there is read only. There are some treaks to write to it but it also has limitations. On my server it creates shapefiles on file system, writes them to ZipStream and makes available for download: http://hboard.iwk.uni-karlsruhe.de:8080/WebGisTools/ I gues it is also possible to create a zip from stream.
