Trying to remember the details; dropping an axis (to take things down to 2d) is
a bit of a trick as you need to determine which axis is "vertical". There was
some fancy word for it in the referencing module. There was also the idea of
using a Feature 2d hint when you perform the query. It was specifically done in
order to map 3d datasets.
