Yes, the app-schema team have never tried this. We have only used GML 
application schemas for data payload and have not attempted to add new 
operations or collection types.

As Jody noted, Andrea (who is also based in Italy), made some 
adventurous use of complex feature encoding using a programmatic API. 
His experience might have some relevance. Have a look at the thread
