Many Thanks Andre.

We actually use the shapefile renderer for a custom implementation at our end -
not too worried about it being discontinued as our implementation is quite
bespoke.

I might start to worry a little if the option was removed to enable this within
GS.

I understand that you won't want to keep legacy configuration code within GS
for something that no longer exists, but what is the feasibility of being able
to have geoserver configured to a custom renderer as long as it extends GT
renderer should be ok and have it declared in the web.xml?

Just a thought for maybe a future feature, but of course may be not possible at
all.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi all,
just a quick notice to the user community that we're about to completely remove
the unsupported shapefile-renderer module from GeoTools 8.x.

The decision is based on the following criteria:
- the streaming renderer can now perform just as well as the shapefile renderer
(on shapefiles) in most cases (and do better in some)
- the extra maintenance effort to keep shapefile-renderer alive does not meet
 the available resources
- the shapefile-renderer is already out of the release in 2.7.x

Long story short, if you really need for some reason to use the shapefile
renderer and have a strong desire to keep it alive it would now be a good time
to offer yourself as a module maintainer :-)

Cheers
Andrea
