Those update pages are part of the project wiki; where we write down notes as
we go.
If you can give me a small example of something that "does not work" that is
not covered by that page; I can tell you how to fix it and you can update the
wiki page for the next person.
But yes it is possible (and recommend) to update to a newer version.
The change from 2.4 to 2.5 was the most significant change the project has ever
done; adopting a new feature model.
