JMapFrame / JMapPane are just basic Swing widgets. They rely on other
GeoTools modules (e.g. gt-render) to do all of the real geospatial
work. Adding editing capabilities would involve a detailed
understanding of GeoTools plus third-party libraries such as JTS
(geometry classes).

It's impossible to say how much work would be involved without knowing
precisely what you require, but it would be substantial. There are no
plans to add such capabilities to gt-swing at the moment and any such
work would need one or more very committed volunteers or funding to be
realized.

If you are looking for open-source Java applications that already
support editing you might consider uDig (based on GeoTools though not
Swing) or OpenJump.
