Ah, that's probably because a Join output is different, it's a set of two
or more
features, not a flat feature.
Join has been developed to support the WFS 2.0 needs in GeoServer,
but has never been extended to rendering since WMS has no concept of joins.
That said, it should not be _too_ hard to create a specific FeatureLayer
subclass
that makes it work.
