You may also note that most of the key developers are away or getting ready
for the foss4g conference ... so assistence on the user list is especially
difficult this time of year. I think everyone will be back mid September?

I do not think there should be a problem with a single polygon stored in a
MapInfo file, but I confess your error message did not make sense to me. Do
you have any more information such as a stack trace?

Can you try just accessing the content using a FeatureReader and confirming
that the file can be read? This can be an initial step before figuring out
how to use MapPane to draw.
