Extending ContentDataStore (we are going to remove AbstractDataStore in the
next six months to a year anyways, at least that's what Jody was
saying in Portland during FOSS4G, just need to find the time to rewrite
MemoryDataStore).
I've just implemented a fix for the issue you reported, but it can only be
partial, as I don't have the original query available
in the sorting feature collection, and the classes that are using it don't
have it either. So it will use the system defaults,
and if none are set, use 1000, but you cannot set a different threshold per
query like in ContentDataStore.

Btw, normally the best thing, when possible, is to have the store itself do
the sorting, I guess GeoMesa does not have fast sorting
abilities? If I remember correctly it's based on a map-reduce setup, can't
you have the computation nodes do a sortì
before sending the main node the data, and then merge-sort them in the
reduce part of map-reduce?
