Well the input is kind of sloppy KML which is created by people that do 
not really know about validity of polygons.
 From my perspective in the (simplified) example, I'd expect it to be 
"converted" into the two triangles, not a rectangle.

Maybe it helps to give an real world example:

is one of the KMLs I'd like to work with. I want to be able to tell 
whether a point is inside this area or not - A little loss in precision 
(due to the "cleanup") would be acceptable.
