Dear Gabriella, that version of GT only supports lon/lat NetCDFs (WGS84 coordinateReferenceSystem). The latest master version should also support other projections which are described by gridMapping attributes as part of the CF convention: http://cfconventions.org/Data/cf-conventions/cf-conventions-1.6/build/cf-conventions.html#appendix-grid-mappings
So I'm not sure your specific dataset will be recognized. Hope this helps.
