I see the same raw values with "ncdump -v longitude" so this behaviour is not specific to NetCDF-Java. I will double check. Christiane indicated off-list that this sample file has been extracted from an even larger file. The longitude values might have been modified on extraction. Christiane, please check the raw longitude values in your original full-size file with "ncdump -v longitude". Panoply might be able to handle non-monotonic longitudes, but I do not think gt-netcdf can.
