I am not sure, are you getting a crash or an exception?
The Eclipse RCP is an example of a restricted environment that breaks the
Java plugin system (called service provider interface as explained in our
user guide). Our user guide has some advice about working around this
problem in eclipse (put all the geotools jars in a single eclipse plugin so
they are in the same class loader and can discover each other). Please
check what has been written and report back :)
