I haven't worked with MapInfo for some time so some of my information
may be dated. But MapInfo did write a good bit of their Internet product
in JAVA. Plus I find they better understand deployment in a business
environment: their Internet product have been faster and they crash
less. One of the things that always bugged me about ESRI's products was
that when my server went down, I had to manually reboot Arc. That's not
the way that apps should work. But again, my direct work with MI is a
few years old so things may have changed.

In Quebec, MapInfo is still the preferred choice among municipalities
because new products are always translated into French much faster than
ESRI's.
