Hello, I was wondering if anyone can point me at some good hiking trail and report sites, so that I can index them to my map. My site, www.trailbehind.com, links trip reports and GPS tracks to a Google map. Right now, we are crawling the sites below, and if you know any other sites that have lots of trip reports or GPS tracks, please let me know.
We look for specific sites to index, and also do a more general web crawl. We can crawl sites looking for names, but it's easier and more accurate when we crawl sites with geo-coordinates included. People can also tag individual article to the map "Digg-style" or upload GPX tracks directly. For these sites, we index their reports to geonames/USGS waypoints on our map, or create new waypoints if we don't have one: - www.localhikes.com - www.bahiker.com - www.summitpost.com - www.mbpost.com - www.wta.org - www.recreation.gov For these sites, we aggregate and merge their GPX files, and then link the trails to reports and other pages on their sites. - www.everytrail.com - www.trailguru.com - www.mtbguru.com Also, this week we're going to add wikipedia data to the map, and index NPS.gov as well. Any other ideas? Regards, Andrew Johnson TrailBehind.com
