[Note that this event is at the Herbst Theater in the Civic Center
(not at Ft. Mason).]
Eat sunlight instead of oil, and eat as if your health depended on it.
American agriculture and food marketing can be reorganized around
those goals.  The author of The Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of
Food lays out the program, from the fields to your palate...

"Deep Agriculture: Resolarizing the Food System to Fight Climate
Change and the Health Care Crisis," Michael Pollan, Herbst Theater,
Civic Center, San Francisco, 7pm, Tuesday May 5. The show starts
promptly at 7:30pm. To be sure of a seat, become a Long Now member and
reserve a seat or order an advance ticket ($10) .

Some SALT talks have overflowed, and latecomers had to be turned away.
To head off the problem, here's the arrangement:

Long Now Members can reserve a seat HERE (Use "discount code" from
your email and on the "Events" tab on the Long Now Member's site.)
You can purchase tickets for $10 HERE

Please Note:

Priority seating for Long Now Members will start at 7pm.
Members and ticket holders: if you arrive after 7:25 we may not be
able to seat you in the theater.
Seating is limited and subject to availability; purchase or reserve
your seat early.
Please allow time for traffic, parking, walking to the theater and check-in.

Talks coming up:
May 18 (MONDAY) - Paul Romer, "A Theory of History, with an Application"
July 28 (TUESDAY) - Pamela Ronald and Raoul Adamchak, "Organically
Grown and Genetically Engineered: The Food of the Future"
Aug. 17 (MONDAY) - Wayne Clough, "Smithsonian Forever"
Sep. 14 (MONDAY) - Arthur Ganson, "Machines and the Breath of Time"
Oct. 9 (Friday) - Stewart Brand, "Rethinking Green"
Nov. 18 (WEDNESDAY) - Sander van der Leeuw, "The Long and Short of It"
High-quality videos of the talks and other benefits (such as
guaranteed seats) are available to Long Now members. Membership, which
costs $8/month ($96/year), helps support the series and other Long Now
projects. Joinable here.
This is one of a monthly series of Seminars About Long-term Thinking
(SALT) organized by The Long Now Foundation. Free audios and my
summaries of all previous talks are available for download here (or
stay up to date with the Podcast here). You'll find a range of
long-term thinking items on our Blog (RSS). If you would like to be
notified by email (like this one) of forthcoming talks, go here to
