Snow Leopard and the iPhone OS already have CoreLocation:

Hopefully having a "Geo Team" at Apple will mean their horribly underpowered MapKit mapping Framework on the iPhone (MapKit) will see some improvements. Currently it only supports point geometries without resorting to some VERY ugly hacks.
