A blog post I wrote on Saturday has been made obsolete by Apple's announcements 
yesterday. A lot of what I said in the post is still valid though, you can find

In the event they suggested that social networks would use cell positioning 
whereas a GPS/Sat Nav running in the background could use the full GPS. I'm 
guessing that this is actually just up to the developer, though might be partly 
enforced by the reviewers. I don't really see place based background check-ins 
working too well from cell-based locating, especially if you're inside a 
building. Wi-fi might work better assuming it's possible to use that. In my 
blog post I've mentioned using various methods to determine the best frequency 
to detect a location.

Any thoughts?
