When I saw this news, I was reminded of ChoicePoint, and the history of abuse and irresponsible data management during the voter roll purges in Florida, and election debacles, etc. Hence, I raise my issues, albeit perhaps not very clearly (sorry), that you seem to have picked up on. Recent history reminds me that it seems prudent to ask the wisdom circles to rate these shockingly powerful, and sometimes AWEful companies on their track record of leadership and stewardship of human data... especially when control of the data can change hands so quickly. Appreciate any more feedback on the subject (GIS data control, public data/private management law, "do know evil" companies and wannabies), especially reading lists, untold stories, Tales from the Memory Hole.
