Did anyone else catch the irony of apple and google getting busted for
applying the technology, but ignoring the fundamental design principal
of the inventors back in '03* of 'privacy aware" wifi geopositioning
by referring to a cached database locations of known wifi access points"
*( Intel Placelab: Jeff Hightower, Anthony LaMarca, et.al. later
licensed and commercialized by skyhook.)
see: http://ils.intel-research.net/place-lab
the history is interesting, but the question remains open, on how to
provide locally relevant personalized contextual services ,and enhanced
accuracy of crude realtime gps positioning with WiFi and other sensors
while giving users completley transparent view of how location track
logs are applied.
