Outstanding candidates are invited to apply for a postdoctoral research associate position at the GeoVISTA Center, Department of Geography, The Pennsylvania State University. The position is a combined research and teaching position. The research associate will work on projects concerning representation of and/or reasoning about spatial (and spatiotemporal) information. The GeoVISTA Center offers a number of research opportunities and depending on the expertise, skills, and interests of the applicant several options exist for doing joint research. It is expected that a successful candidate will select one or two main areas of research. We are interested in a researcher with broad training in geographic information science. Topics of interest are:

   * Webmapping
   * Mobile computing
   * Spatial language and text processing
   * Qualitative spatio-temporal reasoning
   * Geo-ontologies
   * Linked geodata
   * Movement pattern analysis
   * Spatial cognition
   * Spatio-temporal visual analytics
   * Spatialized social network analysis
   * Location-aware Social Media and VGI
   * Spatio-temporal pattern analysis and modeling

The candidate will have access to GeoVISTA Center research facilities including an environment (the Human Factors Lab) to work on behavioral experiments.

The GeoVISTA Center is a transdisciplinary and highly energetic research environment with excellent connections to other departments working on both computational and cognitive aspects of spatial information processing and analysis.

The teaching component of the Postdoc will be tailored to the candidate's expertise, skills and interests. Teaching might take place residentially or on-line. It would include two courses, one per semester. Potential options for courses are:

   * Mapping our changing world (an introduction to GIScience)
   * Programming in GIScience
   * GISystems courses
   * Seminar in GIScience (possible co-instruction)
