Open Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate at the GeoVISTA Center,
Department of Geography, The Pennsylvania State University
Outstanding candidates are invited to apply for a postdoctoral research
associate position at the GeoVISTA Center, Department of Geography, The
Pennsylvania State University. The position is a combined research and
teaching position. The research associate will work on projects
concerning representation of and/or reasoning about spatial (and
spatiotemporal) information. The GeoVISTA Center offers a number of
research opportunities and depending on the expertise, skills, and
interests of the applicant several options exist for doing joint
research. It is expected that a successful candidate will select one or
two main areas of research. We are interested in a researcher with broad
training in geographic information science. Topics of interest are:
* Webmapping
* Mobile computing
* Spatial language and text processing
* Qualitative spatio-temporal reasoning
* Geo-ontologies
* Linked geodata
* Movement pattern analysis
* Spatial cognition
* Spatio-temporal visual analytics
* Spatialized social network analysis
* Location-aware Social Media and VGI
* Spatio-temporal pattern analysis and modeling
The candidate will have access to GeoVISTA Center research facilities
including an environment (the Human Factors Lab) to work on behavioral
experiments.
The GeoVISTA Center is a transdisciplinary and highly energetic research
environment with excellent connections to other departments working on
both computational and cognitive aspects of spatial information
processing and analysis.
The teaching component of the Postdoc will be tailored to the
candidate's expertise, skills and interests. Teaching might take place
residentially or on-line. It would include two courses, one per
semester. Potential options for courses are:
* Mapping our changing world (an introduction to GIScience)
* Programming in GIScience
* GISystems courses
* Seminar in GIScience (possible co-instruction)
This postdoctoral research associate position is a one-year appointment
with the possibility of renewal for the second year.
