Hi fellow geowankers,

The price to attend State of the Map <http://stateofthemap.us> - the
OpenStreetMap conference coming to Portland OR October 13-14 - is set to
increase this Sunday (9/15), so if you plan to come register now for just
$80 ($50 for OSM US chapter members). If you're headed out that way for the
NACIS <http://www.nacis.org/> cartography conference, come a little early
for some more mapping fun!

OpenStreetMap <http://openstreetmap.org/> comes up a lot at our meetups,
and this event will be a great opportunity to continue those conversations,
see how people are using it in their work, and learn techniques for working
with and contributing to it. People of all skill levels and backgrounds are
welcome, and there will be several sessions geared to newcomers to
OpenStreetMap, including a hands on introductory workshop.

Other highlights include:

   - Steve Coast, the founder of OpenStreetMap, will kick off the
   conference with a keynote presentation.
   - Trimet, Portland’s public transportation service agency, will talk
about how OpenStreetMap data powers their trip planner.
   - Foursquare and Flickr will talk about how and why they use
   OpenStreetMap.
   - The World Bank will talk about its work using OSM to help build more
   resilient communities.
   - The National Park service will show off its new basemap.
   - Community leaders working in Portland, Macon GA, and Indonesia will
present on their communities and what they're doing locally.

More details on the conference and registration are at stateofthemap.us.
Stay tuned for the full schedule, due out in the next few days.
