Hey everyone,

Just a reminder about this upcoming OSM conference. I won't personally be
there this year, but last year's in Portland was fantastic and I wish my
schedule allowed me to attend this year as well.

In just nine days 350+ users and contributors to OpenStreetMap will meet in
San Francisco for the annual State of the Map US
<http://stateofthemap.us/> conference.
This will be the largest event to date in the nine year history of what has
become the world's largest open source map.
OpenStreetMap<http://www.openstreetmap.org/> leverages
the power of crowdsourced collaboration to build a free and editable map of
the world that in a growing number of areas competes with commercial map
providers.

The project's recent growth makes this year's conference particularly
interesting. In January OpenStreetMap passed the one million registered
user
threshold<http://idealab.talkingpointsmemo.com/2013/01/openstreetmap-reaches-1-million-users-will-rival-google-maps-in-2-years.php>
-
and this was just a little over a year since it passed the 500,000 user
mark. Every week the project adds 1,000+ new
mappers<http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Stats>,
and this number is increasing with the addition of new tools that make it
easier to contribute to the map<http://mashable.com/2013/05/07/openstreetmap/>
.

We invite you to join us for State of the Map US to learn about how to use
OpenStreetMap and discuss its future. The packed
schedule<http://stateofthemap.us/saturday.html> will
feature experts talking about how they use OpenStreetMap in disaster
response, national parks management, navigation services, app development,
and higher education. Training workshops will be available on the Friday
before the conference for all skill levels. The weekend will wrap up with
two hands-on sprint days where people will dive into the code and
documentation and work on improving certain features within OpenStreetMap.
And of course there will be parties.

Register now at stateofthemap.us before tickets sell out. Any questions or
inquiries about student discounts can be directed to [email protected]
.
