After I posted this I remembered that there's a lot more land north of
the equator -- about 65-70% of the land mass. 
And a lot more people -- about 90% of the world population!
The Wikipedia article on cultural definitions of "summer" is
interesting, too, since they vary by a few weeks in different
countries. But I couldn't find one where mid-July wasn't squarely in
the "summer" category.
So, yeah: it's mostly summer on planet Earth.
