I'm at SIMS (now the School of Information) at UC Berkeley, having already done a degree at ITP :). I've done some work in community geoannotation (Annotate Space, my ITP master's project), locative games and cultural programming, and location-based services for mobile phones, as well as recent coursework in GIS. While I enjoy geo-wanking and systems prototyping, my most current interest is in making mobile and location-based tech and services more usable and broadly relevant to more users, and learning how the current group of adopters is using them. I'm interested in working for a research lab, a mobile apps developer or a design consultancy that's working on a location-based project.

Hey everyone--
A little introduction.. I'm a first year student at itp's interactive
telecommunications programs. My work has steered in the direction of
mapping and gis. Right now I am building a mobile cell phone
application that lets users get walking directions through the city of
new york while leaving and receiving voice stories about the places
along their route. That's the current project, i'm also going to be
working with glowlabs this summer/fall.
Are there any interesting summer opportunities interning in a mapping
or GIS firm that someone on the list knows of? I have a lot of comp
sci experience but everything mapping related that i know is self
taught. I've been really getting into it and would love to try to
find an environment where I can learn from others about gis and
contribute my comp sci skills. kind of like this list but in person
:)
any ideas?
thanks
