Hi Matt,

I would be interested. I wonder if this should be done in collaboration with geotorrent.org or even better, the OSGeo "Public Geospatial Data Project", see http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Public_Geospatial_Data_Project

Cheers,

Matt / Alex,

I have SRTM30+ data available as a torrent though I'm not sure the tracker
is operating any more. I should likely move it onto the geotorrent site.

I have a snapshot of the CDED archive which I've made a few brief efforts
at putting into a more distributable form. It was my intent to offer it
via geotorrent.org, and "register" it with the OSGeo geodata effort. However,
given my failure to wrestle it into a nice form, it might be good if someone
else tried.

BTW, it has been my finding that JPEG2000 is a very nice format for
distributing elevation data. With a high quality the compression is
still fantastic with virtual no change in the data. This works very well
for elevation data since it is so smoothly continuous.

Best regards,
