Apropos the discussion of satellite data, this site just showed up on Digg: http://www.geotorrent.org/
It's a collection of spatial data sets, mostly raster images normalized to geographic coordinates. There's 35 datasets up there, most files are about 1 gigabyte. The user agreement specifies that all the datasets on the site are redistributable and have clear license terms associated with them.
