Anselm:

Thanks for your interest.

Google and NASA WorldWind doesn't cover the area with the fish weirs in
high resolution imagery yet. The LANDSAT imagery isn't of high enough
resolution to see anything but the coarsest of the large causeways and
canals of the Baures Hydraulic Complex. You can check this out by moving
due east from the town of Baures (search "Baures, Bolivia" which is a bit
off the actual town on a Google place search) between the first river (San
Joaquin River) and second river (San Martin River) before the forests and
border with Brazil (the Guapore or Itenez river. I have a survey and
mapping project in the Baures Hydraulic Complex this summer and another
project between Baures and the Rio Mamore. We have our own unpublished GIS
of the region based on aerial photographs, declassified satellite imagery,
and LANDSAT ETM imagery which shows most of the earthworks. We will check
the accuracy of the GIS this summer. Once Google covers this area, our GIS
will probably be obsolete.

Some of the ring ditch sites, small blocks of faint raised fields, and a
few long canals show up on the scattered high rez Google that does exist
for the town of Baures and a few forest islands to the north, NW, and WNW.

You can check out high rez photos of the fish weirs from a low flying
Cessna on my website. You can also see a brief video segment on fish weirs
in the documentary "The Secret of El Dorado" (BBC -2, Horizon Series, 2002).

I've been reading 1491 which cites your research and was curious to
actually take a peek at this myself in google maps or Nasa WorldWind.
Hoping you can help me out with a specific location that I can then
share with my community of geo enthusiasts.
