Hm. Allegheny County (PAu has pictures of every structure online for tax purposes. I guess I should look into license info and see if anything can be made programmatically from their imagery if it's legally usable and useful.

Wankers, etc,

Rich Gibson and I have been talking about doing a map of panoramas, and he registered the domain OpenStreetView.com. I personally am interested in views other than the street, creating a database of panoramas in places where the GoogleVan could never penetrate. I am able to do panoramas using traditional methods, including tripods, the Panosaurus (a panoramic tripod head), and a traditional camera, but there are some hanging bits in my mind
in this scenario.

For starters, I would like to have an open source viewer. Does anyone have a flash viewer that is OSS, or has the expertise to make one? Obviously QTVR is an option, but any controls for movement have to be outside of the viewer then, and it limits the ability to add dynamic links in the UI ala Google
Street View's viewer.

Secondly, I see a need to be able to create a panoramic camera that can either be mounted on a backpack or on a small wagon. This would allow us to capture data in some great areas, and provide that wealth of data instead of just a few places. This would also be great for Open Street Maps, because it would give the mapmakers additional metadata from the ground to identify
features.

Anyone interested in taking on this challenge with us?
