If you only want to do every 100ft, then you can use a DSLR (eg,
Nikon D80) with a fisheye lenses (Nikkor 10.5mm), for an easy 6 shots
per pano. I would recommend a solid tripod, and the best pano-head
mount for minimum money seems to be the Nodal Ninja.
I'm using the 360 lenses for a panorama every half a metre, but I
find the images of road, cars, and building fronts very boring. There
is a lot to be said for the artistic composition of well chosen
locations and high quality results.
In addition, this allows you to choose the time, be next to
interesting events, and seek permission from the people you are
photographing rather than the intrusive drive-by shootings.
Steve.
PS. I would avoid using any fisheye convertors on normal cameras, as
the lenses distortion is a bitch. DSLR and fisheye direct into the
body is best, and Nikkor 10.5mm is the only DX format fisheye. Sigma
have lenses that physically attach, but are not designed for the
2/3rds size CCD sensor.
