Very cool! I haven't got much time to contribute, but seeing this it 
occurred to me that it should be feasible to provide something as 
useful, if not quite as comprehensive as Google Maps (I've seen they 
have high-quality data of remote mountains on Madagascar), by using 
public domain satellite imagery on the large scale, weather balloon 
flights on the medium scale and RC plane flights on the detailed. 

Hmmm, I did build an RC plane at the age of 12, it never flew, but 
perhaps it should... :-)
