While browsing around for Tasmania data I noticed how much work it was
to build gtopo30:

   http://edc.usgs.gov/products/elevation/gtopo30/README.html#h2

In particular it was intriguing to note the use of known locations of
rivers to help improve the elevation data.

And how completely obsoleted gtopo30 was by SRTM 1,2 and now 3:

   http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/

And it becomes very interesting to see how folks are building
applications on top of various related datasets - largely all highly
dependent on elevation data:

I've historically wanted to see exist a community driven game-like
simulation of the world; where people could noodle around with
simulated impacts of various decisions on their local watersheds...
