That is how it would appear in my view, but how are you going to compute the data in the first place? Polarised light can be shown with polarising filters, but try doing the same for heat maps of people's movements, pollution levels over time, or other abstract and extrapolated and collected data. The point is to link the data to the location in real time so that I don't have to read text books and make the connection, or see a picture of somewhere else and make the connection.
