Open position in the Governance and Capacity Group, Institute for Global
Environmental Strategies, Japan
The main area is international environmental politics focusing on
transboundary air pollution, although experience regarding international
environmental cooperation more broadly will also be helpful. Ideally, the
person would have some background on both international and comparative
politics, as our research tends to combine the two, but public policy would
also be good. A background in the domestic politics of climate change could
also be relevant.
In particular our work will focus on the domestic political factors
influencing air pollution policies and international cooperation.
Transboundary air pollution is expected to be the main focus of the
position, but there will be opportunities to be involved in other research
areas as well relating to environmental governance.
It is important to keep in mind that our institute focuses on policy
related research, not pure academic or theoretical research. Our institute
is very interdisciplinary, and we have a very multinational staff.
For this position, we prefer strong Japanese as well as English language
ability (including writing reports & articles in both languages).
Masters & ABD will be considered as well as Ph.D. At least 5 years of
relevant working experience is preferred.
We want to fill the position ASAP with someone who can start soon. It is a
3 year contract position with possibility of renewal based on performance
and evolving plans and circumstances of the institute.
