From: Kenneth Broad [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, September 11, 2010 3:52 AM Subject: Doctoral Research Opportunity in Natural-Hazard Decision Making at the University of Miami please circulate widely. much appreciated and best to you all, Kenny ================================ Doctoral Research Opportunity in Natural-Hazard Decision Making at the University of Miami The University of Miami's Abess Center for Ecosytem Science and Policy has funds to fully support a doctoral student with an interest in the study of human decision making in response to natural hazards, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, or extreme consequences of climate change. We encourage students with backgrounds in psychology, economics, anthropology, or environmental science to apply. Support would be provided by the Center for Research on Environmental Decisions, a NSF-funded research center whose focus is the study of human behavior in response to climate change and other environmental issues. Funded students would be enrolled in the Abess Center's PhD Program in Environmental Science and Policy, and would work with faculty from diverse disciplines both within and outside of the University of Miami. Applicants should see the project as synergistic with a primary research interest in decision making and/or natural hazards, thus forming the basis of a thesis in this area.
