*Department of Geography, the University of Georgia seeks applications for a
tenure-track
Assistant Professor position in Energy and Sustainability, to start August
2011. PhD
required at time of appointment.*

We seek applications from scholars with a research agenda focused on the
intersection(s)
of energy production with climate change and/or food security, with an
emphasis on
sustainability and conservation practice. With this position, the department
seeks to
enrich and expand integrative and interdisciplinary research and instruction
that addresses
social and environmental vulnerabilities associated with global change. We
particularly
encourage applications from scholars with international interests in
conservation
practices and effects on the local to global carbon budget, energy inputs
into climate
sensitive processes, energy system responses to social and environmental
constraints,
impacts of energy production on regional to global food systems, and
“greening” of
economies.

The successful candidate will have a solid record of, or potential for,
publications and
external funding and have a demonstrable record of interdisciplinary
engagement. The
candidate will be expected to teach required and specialty courses at the
undergraduate
and graduate levels. *The appointment will be in geography (www.ggy.uga.edu),
but the
candidate is expected to contribute to the Center for Integrative
Conservation Research
(www.cicr.uga.edu) and a new joint doctoral program in Integrative
Conservation and
Geography.* This hire will complement a parallel search underway in the
Department of
Anthropology.

Apply: Send a letter of application outlining research agenda and teaching
philosophy,
curriculum vitae, up to three reprints/samples of written work, and names
and contact
information for at least three references. We require electronic submission
of application
materials to [email protected]. To be assured of full consideration,
applications must be
received by January 31, 2011. For inquiries, contact Dr. Thomas Mote, Search
